Recording is OFF until you turn it on

CRE Fuel does not record your calls by default. Nothing is recorded until you go to Settings > Phone > Call Recording & Summaries and switch it on yourself.
Recording laws are your responsibility, and they vary by state.Roughly a dozen US states require every party on the call to consent before it can be recorded, not just you. Others require only one party. Which rules apply can depend on where you are, where the other person is, or both.CRE Fuel does not announce that a call is being recorded, and it does not ask the other party for consent. There is no setting that does this. If your situation requires disclosure, you have to say it out loud yourself, at the start of the call.Penalties in all-party-consent states are serious and can include criminal charges as well as civil liability. If you are not certain what applies to you, check your state’s law or ask your attorney before turning recording on.

What you get when it is on

Once enabled, a recorded call produces two things on the contact’s timeline:
  • The audio, playable in the browser.
  • A written summary. Real conversations get summarized. Voicemails are quoted close to word-for-word instead, because a summary of “leave a message after the tone” is useless to you.
Recording is available when you call from your computer. It is not available from the phone.
It cannot reliably tell. The obvious approach is counting voices, but a voicemail greeting is a second voice, so a machine picking up looks identical to a person answering. This is why logging the outcome yourself is worth the two seconds. You know whether you spoke to someone.

Call notes

Every call is logged to the contact’s timeline whether or not it was recorded, with the date, who made it, and how long it lasted. Add a note to any call to capture what actually mattered.
1

Open the contact and find the call

The call is on the contact’s timeline, most recent first.
2

Write what was said and what you promised

The useful note is not a transcript. It is what they need and what you committed to do next.
3

Set the follow-up before you leave

A note that says “call back Thursday about listing price” only helps if something reminds you on Thursday. Set the task while you are still on the record.
Notes are searchable, and every note records who wrote it. On a team, that means you can tell at a glance whether you or your assistant spoke to someone last.
