# Set a Buyer Contact's Buy Box Criteria in CRE Fuel

> Define exactly what a buyer is looking for so CRE Fuel can surface the right property matches automatically and save you hours of manual sorting.

A buy box is the set of criteria a buyer uses to decide whether a property is worth a look. It covers asset type, price range, geography, cap rate, and square footage. When you fill it in, CRE Fuel uses those criteria to automatically match that buyer to properties in your pipeline.

## What You Are Trying to Do

You want to record what a specific buyer is looking for so CRE Fuel can surface matching listings for you without manual digging.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the buyer's contact record">
    Go to **Contacts** in the left sidebar. Find the buyer and click their name to open their contact record.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Edit Buy Box">
    On the contact record, click the **Edit Buy Box** button. A panel will open with all the buy box fields.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select the asset type">
    In the **Asset Type** field, choose the property type this buyer targets. Examples: Multifamily, Industrial, Retail, Office, NNN.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the price range">
    Fill in the **Min Price** and **Max Price** fields. Use whole dollar amounts, no commas needed.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add preferred markets">
    In the **Preferred Markets** field, type each metro or submarket this buyer will consider. Press **Enter** after each one to add it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the cap rate range">
    Enter a **Min Cap Rate** and **Max Cap Rate**. Enter them as plain numbers, for example type 5.5 for a 5.5% cap rate.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the square footage range">
    Enter a **Min SF** and **Max SF** to define the size range the buyer will consider.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the buy box">
    Click **Save**. CRE Fuel will now use this buy box when matching properties to buyers.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  The more fields you fill in, the sharper the matches CRE Fuel returns. Even a partial buy box helps, but a complete one keeps irrelevant results out of your list.
</Tip>

<Note>
  You can have multiple buyers with different buy boxes. Each buy box is tied to one contact record and matched independently.
